Theme 2 : Post-doctoral position in health economics
The successful candidate is expected to start her/his post-doctoral position in June 2016. She/he will carry out quantitative research on economic topics related to health economics issues in developing countries under the supervision of Martine Audibert and Jacky Mathonnat.
Description of the research project and of the position
The successful candidate will collaborate to research within the context of on-going projects in a selection of countries including China, Mongolia, Zimbabwe and other countries. The projects will be conducted in each country in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and local universities. They focused on two main issues based on original surveys : (i) analysis of productivity and technical efficiency of health facilities and of (ii) the effects of contracts on health care provider behavior and performance. The candidate will be involved in finalizing the research agenda, analyzing secondary and primary data, publishing and disseminating project findings.
Applicants are expected to hold a Ph.D in Economics with demonstrated research experience in empirical microeconomics, health or development economics. Candidates should have a solid background in econometrics and statistics with ability to manage large and complex micro data sets in STATA. Fair knowledge of institutional issues related to health system, of non- parametric methods for efficiency analysis and of impact evaluation methods, as well as previous field or data collection experience, are advantageous. The successful candidate should have the ambition to publish research in high-impact international journals, have excellent writing skills in English.
